Active Minds Club Update

First look into a new mental health oriented club here at Elkhorn North.

Elkhorn North is taking steps towards promoting positivity and normalizing the discussion of mental health.

“Active minds is a national organization that is aimed at high school and college campuses to change the conversation on mental health,” Mrs. Anderson, psychology teacher at Elkhorn North and sponsor of Active Minds said.

Active minds is a safe place for students to discuss mental health issues. As mental health is considered a taboo topic among society, students now have the ability to reach out and get help when dealing with mental health.

“I really had struggled with mental illness in the past and I still do to this day, “said Senior Kate Revers President of Active Minds, “We are dealing with a very stressful time in our lives, going through high school and preparing for college, so I just wanted to be apart of an environment and make a difference.”

Active minds held Yoga sessions to release stress from finals week. They also created stress relievers like stickers and fidget toys for students to use for handling their stress over finals.

Mental health awareness is becoming a major part of Elkhorn North with the addition of the Active Minds club.
