Leading both the Wolves in all offensive categories, junior Chris Thiessen helped the Wolves not only beat the number two ranked Class A school at the time but also beat Elkhorn in order to win the EMC Championship.
So far this season, Thiessen has started every game for the Wolves and had a batting average of .558 across all games, putting Thiessen fifth in batting averages for All-Class in the state.
“Chris is undoubtedly our leader offensively,” head coach Anthony Dunn said. “ He starts every game, bats lead-off, and leads our team and the state in most offensive categories.”
This type of leadership comes through hard work and grit, which is something that the baseball team tries to exemplify throughout every single game, especially Thiessen.
“He’s a really hard worker,” teammate Carson Ripley said. “He’s the type of person to show up early to practice to hit and is always working and getting extra reps outside of practice.”
Thiessen’s talent wasn’t something that he gained out of no where, it took extreme hard work and dedication to his craft in order to be so high up in the state rankings offensively.
This hard work is just one of the reasons why the Wolves have been able to take down many top teams in the state this season including Bellevue West and were able to bring home the 2022 State Championship title last spring.
“I think his work ethic with hitting and putting in the extra time has really helped our team and is one of the ways that he contributes to our team’s success so far this season,” Dunn said.
