After starting offensive lineman senior Brock Marler got injured at practice on Wednesday, the varsity football team became unsure of how their season will unfold with such a key player out of play for several weeks. That is when junior, Max Jakob stepped up.
In the Wolves’ season opener against the Beatrice Orangemen, Jakob brought the team a wave of relief with his performance and reliability. With his strong work ethic and determination, Jakob is known to be a player who is ready for any circumstance.
“He is very dedicated and works very hard,” Head Coach Samuel Stanley said. “He prepares as if he was a starter, and, when the time came, he was ready to go.”
Few players can step into such a big position with no notice and perform at the capacity Jakob did.
“It was pretty awesome to see,” Marler said. “He was calm and is good under pressure.”
After the game Jakob was awarded the dog mask from Coach Stanley, which is given to one player who excel each game.
“I appreciate his hard work,” Stanley said. “He does a great job of putting in the work when others maybe wouldn’t.”
