Senior Eli Shada won first place in singles at the Crete Varsity Tennis Invite on Friday, September 1st; beating last year’s state champion in the process and helping the team bring home a win.
“It shows that as a team we should be able to do better at the state tournament this year,” Senior Dylan Asmus said, “Eli should be able to beat anybody he plays.”
Even in his senior season, E. Shada has continued to improve his technique and skills.
“He’s gotten a lot more consistent and he hits the ball a lot harder,” Freshman Andrew Shada said. “He’s really worked on placing the ball a lot better and is really working on those ground strokes.”
In addition to improvements on the court, E. Shada also helps keep his team motivated and trying their best.
“Eli is a great teammate; he’s my doubles partner so I get to have fun with him,” Asmus said, “No matter what’s happening he’s always being positive and always encouraging you.”
So far throughout the season, E. Shada has focused on keeping up a good attitude and supporting his teammates.
“He’s a bunch of fun, and he’s really kind and supportive to all the teammates, and he just makes sure everybody is getting better,” A. Shada said. “He’s also making sure everybody’s putting forth their best effort.”
