At halftime of the homecoming game, two members of the football team peeled off their jerseys. They sprinted to the opposite end of the field to meet the mass of performers dressed alike in blue and black uniforms and hats with a bright white plume.

Sophomores Christian Schlott and Andrew Decker take being involved one step further as members of both the football teams and the Sound of the Wolf Pack marching band. Their dedication was on full display as they performed in the halftime show fresh off the football field. For this, we celebrate Schlott and Decker as the WolVES of the Week!

Marching band meets during first period every morning. On Tuesdays, they practice after school from 6:30 to 9:30. Many Saturdays they have band competitions that can take as long as ten hours. During halftime of every home game, they perform in front of the crowd.

“[Schlott and Decker] are really dedicated and love the people in the marching band,” junior drum major Mason Miller said.

The football teams practice every day after school until 6:15. JV practices for two hours on Saturdays. Varsity plays on Fridays and JV on Mondays. Prior to each game they have an hour-long walk-through. Outside of games and practices, there is film to watch and lifting sessions several mornings before school each week.

Individually, each of these activities requires a lot, yet Decker and Schlott choose to take on the mental and physical load of both. Whether it is running drills or running through the show, both football and marching band require students to be active for several hours.

“Physically it is a lot on your body, but you get used to it,” Decker said.

The demand of balancing these two teams and schedules can be stressful, but that doesn’t stop Schlott and Decker from finding enjoyment in what they love.

“I think it is worth doing both because I enjoy them equally,” Schlott said.
