On Friday night, the Wolves played against the Elkhorn High Antlers. There were many impressive players, but Senior Tommy Meckna’s skills were especially put on display that night.

Meckna had a big impact from the start, getting an interception on the Antlers first drive of the game, leading to a quick Wolves touchdown.

Meckna would later score two more times, one in the first half and one in the second, leading to a big win for the Wolves.

“For us to get out to a fast 14-0 start was huge,” wide receiver and defensive back coach Anthony Dunn said. “Tommy’s been a lock down corner for us all year. He’s called Meckna Island for a reason.”

The nickname Meckna Island was given to Meckna because when a receiver tries to run a route on him, there is no way that the ball will get to them.

Not only was Meckna able to score twice himself, but he also played a big role in helping other receivers, such as Jase Reynolds and Chase Loftin, to get open.

“It allows me to play freely knowing I will always have someone else on the field that will always be doing their job correctly,” sophomore receiver Jase Reynolds said.

Through any adversity, Meckna has not allowed it to affect him. He is arguably in his best season ever.

Meckna has played a big role in the Wolves most successful season yet, starting at 6-0. He is set to continue to do so through the rest of their season, which the team firmly believes could end in a championship.
