The Elkhorn North Wolves are now 3-1 over the past four years against the Mount Michael Knights in a completely unbalanced Thursday night victory. The game started off the way none of the fans expected it too. The Wolves received the kickoff, but struggled to get yards, and couldn’t get anything going for them. Shortly after, the Wolves punted the ball and the Knights got it around the 25. The Knights immediately made moves, marching down the field with ease.
Everyone thought if the Wolves continued to play this way all game, it would be a blowout loss for them. The Knights were getting incredibly comfortable during their march down the field, but it came to an immediate stop. The Knights threw the ball, expecting a touchdown, but cornerback Tommy Meckna helped turn things around for the Wolves, with an interception inside the five yard line. Everyone in the stadium thought the momentum would have changed, but it hadn’t changed yet. The Wolves got the ball, but couldn’t make any moves with it once again. The first quarter ended with an underwhelming score of 0-0.
The beginning of the second quarter started off just like the first. It was a slow game for both teams until the eight minute mark when cornerback Alex Uchtman got a pick six. After this interception, the Wolves gained some strength, including a giant shift in momentum. The Wolves defense put the team on their back, and once again, stopped the Knights quickly.
Shortly after this, the Wolves offense picked things up. They marched down the field with ease, and Johnny Ferguson threw a big pass to wide receiver Chase Loftin for a touchdown. As they’ve done all game, the defense gets another quick stop, and sets up the Wolves offense with great field position. With just over one minute left in the second quarter, sophomore quarterback Ethan Beachy throws a dot to senior receiver, Tommy Meckna. The Wolves finally leave the Knights in the dust, making the score 21-0 at halftime.
Just like the first two quarters, the second half started off incredibly shaky for the Wolves. One minute into the third quarter, wide receiver Chase Loftin fumbles the ball on his way to the endzone. The next drive for the Knights went nowhere, forcing them to punt out of the back of their own endzone. The Wolves defense still had the team on their shoulders, and shut down the Knights offense.
The next drive for the Wolves was just as shaky as their first. Wolves backup quarterback Ethan Beachy threw an interception with seven minutes left in the third quarter. The next few drives for both teams went nowhere. The Wolves defense continued to do what they needed to, and the Knights defense stopped the Wolves from getting positive yardage. This no score third quarter kept the score 21-0 going into the fourth quarter.
Towards the very end of the third quarter, and the very beginning of the fourth quarter, the Wolves made some moves. Just under fifteen seconds into the fourth quarter, backup quarterback Ethan Beachy makes up for his interception, and throws an incredible ball to Chase Loftin.
Shortly after, the Wolves march down the field once again, and this time senior quarterback Johnny Ferguson throws his second touchdown of the game to who other than Chase Loftin. Not even a minute after this touchdown, Wolves safety Jett Tingelhoff gets the Wolves their second pick six of the night. After these three big touchdowns by the Wolves in the fourth quarter, it was a slow uneventful rest of the game. The final score was 41-0 in the Wolves favor, helping them extend their streak to seven wins in a row.
