Freshman Maura McMahon will perform in the musical “42nd Street” this November. While being involved in the musical, McMahon also plays electric guitar in her spare time.
McMahon is in the ensemble of the musical along with ten other freshmen. McMahon’s older brother Collin will also be performing in the musical and he strongly encouraged her to be apart of it.
“It is not intimating being a freshman in the musical because everyone is super inclusive and nice,” freshman Maura McMahon said. “At first I was uneasy about trying out, but my brother Colin really wanted me too. In the end, I am super happy that I did.”
Besides being involved in the musical, she also enjoys practicing the electric guitar. She has played for around six years and currently takes lessons at Dietze Music.
“One of my favorite hobbies is playing the guitar,” McMahon said. “It connects me to my dad because he also plays.”
Along with having an older brother at Elkhorn North, she also has a twin brother, Aidan. Even though they are twins, she says that they are not similar at all.
“We are very different,” McMahon said. “He is smart and takes all of the advanced classes but that is not me.”
Although the McMahon twins have different interests, all of the McMahon siblings enjoy having each other’s company at the same school.
“I love seeing my sister at school,” her brother Collin McMahon said. “She brings a very lively energy to the building and it’s always good to see a positive face everyday. It makes me excited to come to school and have a good time.”
McMahon’s brother Collin is not the only one who has said positive things about her expressive personality.
“She always has opinions to voice that a lot of the class can agree with and relate to.” science teacher Josh Hoins said.
McMahon brings energy to the classroom with her comments and stories, which allows for a positive atmosphere anywhere she goes.
“She has a very big personality in a good way,” Hoins said. “She brings people in and gets people involved with classroom discussions.”
