Freshman Ollie Kult will continue her passion for music in New Zealand next year. In the meantime, she participates in band and experiments with new instruments.
For the past 20 years, Kult’s parents have wanted to move to New Zealand and they will soon accomplish this goal.
“They think it’s beautiful, college is a lot cheaper and I won’t be in debt,” Kult said. “I’ll also be able to make a lot of friends.”
Kult plays the trumpet, guitar, piano, recorder and is now learning the drums. Kult is especially excited to play the snare drums in New Zealand.
“I’ve never really liked trumpet,” Kult said. “It really doesn’t sound that good to me personally and I’ve wanted to do percussion since eighth grade but I’ve never had a chance to.”
As a freshman, Kult is in her first experiences in a marching band.
“She is doing so well, especially in marching band,” drum major junior Sam Miller said. “She was one of the first freshmen to really grasp the concept of marching on the beat, and her fundamentals (basic marching staples and techniques) are phenomenal! She’s also a really good trumpet player and she’s definitely made a positive impact on the trumpet section.”
