Freshman Aspen Boehler spends his weekends working, like many students, but has a spookier job than most. Boehler is an actor at Blood Rush haunted houses.
“My friend asked me if I wanted to work there.” Boehler said. “And I just thought it sounded like fun. So I decided to do it.”
Freshman Nolan Celis invited many of his friends to work with him at Blood Rush; Boehler was one of the few to take him up on the offer.
“I love working with Aspen.” Celis said. “We work in the same section sometimes and get to scare people together.”
Boehler goes straight to work after school and often doesn’t leave until after one in the morning. The process of getting ready includes a long line of actors waiting to get their makeup done.
“I really liked Saturday’s makeup.” Boehler said. “They just darken everything around your eyes and make you look creepy.”
Blood Rush includes numerous haunted houses, but Boehler’s favorite spot is a creepy corner in Camp Warden.
“You can smash through the doors and people get really scared because it’s so loud and unexpected,” Boehler said. “One time I made someone pass out.”
Outside of the scaring, Boehler is very social and enjoys meeting new people through his job. Blood Rush provides a diverse group of employees, allowing Boehler to expand his social circle.
“There are a lot of people you can meet, like the actors and makeup artists.” Boehler said. “They are all super nice and make the job super fun.”
