The Wolves victory in the district final over the Bennington Badgers took them to their third appearance in the state tournament.
In their first game, Elkhorn North volleyball swept #7 Seward High School in three sets (25-12, 25-14, 25-15) with the wolves in control the whole game not allowing more than 15 points scored per set. Several players put up impressive stats against Seward including freshman Reagan Wallraff with 11 kills and senior Ava Spies with 18 kills. Senior Reese Booth contributed a whopping 42 assists after putting up high numbers all year long, often leading the total number of assists for most games.
Advancing to the semifinals, the Wolves played number 3 seed Skutt Catholic High School. Skutt Catholic has won the last eight straight Nebraska State Volleyball Championships. The Wolves lost in three sets to the Skyhawks (25-20, 25-22, 25-21) which ended their state tournament run.
With a final record of 29-8, the wolves send off an impressive season and their first senior class to go through four years in the program.
“The[se seniors] are responsible for building the foundation of this program and establishing the culture,” head coach Jenny Gragert said. “It is a special group that I really appreciate and will miss!”
Three of the team seniors signed letters of commitment this week to play at the collegiate level: Ava Spies at Wayne State College, Reese Booth at University of Northern Iowa, and Haylee Wolf at Fort Hays State University.
