On Saturday, January 27, the Elkhorn North Show Choir, adrENaline, hosted a middle school show choir festival.
“There was a total of 17 schools and 18 middle school show choir groups, [and] it is our largest fundraiser of the year,” adrENaline’s director Mrs. Allen said, “We have smaller groups perform in the morning session, medium-sized groups perform in the afternoon session, and our largest groups perform in the evening session.”
At a show choir competition, all groups perform in a preliminary round, and the top six advance to the final round. However, the Northern Lights Festival is run in a similar manner to a showcase. All groups performed one time, and each session was followed by a performance by adrENaline.
“[The judges] do ratings of each session,” Allen said. “Each group walks away with [either] a gold, silver, or bronze rating.”
Out of the 18 groups that performed, 7 earned gold ratings, 8 silver, and 3 received bronze.
AdrENaline gave the middle school performers a glimpse into how a high school show choir performance works and what it looks like.
“This was the best year of Northern Lights and I can’t wait for what’s to come,” adrENaline member Audra Brabec stated.
