Battling a fast pace schedule, the team had nine boys and twelve girls qualify for state. The state swimmers from Elkhorn North were: Jenna Polking, Eva Reinoehl, Emersyn Shradar, Mackenzie Peter, Avery Waszak and Dylan Palmer.
After the first day of state, which is the preliminary round, the girls team had Peter, Polking, Shradar, Waszak, and Palmer advance to finals.
Peter swam the 200 meter individual medley and the 100 meter breaststroke, Polking in the 200 meter freestyle and the 500 meter freestyle, and Waszak and Shradar competed in the team relays.
“Making it to finals was exciting because it was the last time I had the opportunity to do something great for myself and for the team,” senior Avery Waszak said.
The girls 200 meter medley relay got fourth, 400 meter freestyle got fifth, and the 200 meter freestyle got sixth.
Individually, Peter placed fifth for the 200 meter individual medley and the 100 meter breaststroke, and Polking placed 12th in the 200 meter freestyle and 16th in the 500 meter freestyle.
“Both teams really had an awesome season, we worked together as a team and it showed at state,” junior Makenzie Peter said.
For the boys, Palmer qualified for the final day of state in the 100 meter butterfly and 200 meter individual medley.
Overall, the combined Elkhorn team placed ninth for boys and sixth for girls.
“Everything I did and didn’t do played a role in how I performed, and I left everything in the water,” senior Dylan Palmer said.
