With her performance at the Swim and Dive state tournament, Junior Makenzie Peter has rightfully earned Wolf of the Week. The girls’ team placed 6th overall at state and Peter placed 5th in three different events, along with a 4th place finish.

Peter has found herself in a leadership role as she is the only junior on a team currently full of seniors. Through hard work and dedication, Peter put herself in a unique position that most juniors don’t see.

“Over the past year it has been great to see her step into a leadership role within our team as a team captain,” Head Coach Jenna Foiles said. “Not all juniors have the opportunity to be a captain, but she holds her team to high standards, which only helps all of us grow.”

Being a team captain also comes with lots of responsibilities, like keeping the team motivated and showing perseverance. Peter has taken this leadership role head-on by making sure that the team stays focused on their goals.

“She’s really good at getting everyone in for practice, and she keeps us moving,” Senior Bella Thoreen said. “She’s one of the first people in for practice, she works really hard and brings a lot to the team.”

With a good amount of seniors on this year’s team, Peter will be stepping into a role as the only senior on the Swim and Dive team from Elkhorn North. Her teammates and coaches are thrilled that they get to have her back for another year and see big things for her to come.

“Makenzie has played a pivotal role on our State and Metro team all three years so far,” Foiles said. “I can’t wait to see what impact she is able to make in her senior season. There are a few team records that are within her reach that I would love to see her take down before she graduates.”
