The Wolf of the Week column often features athletes who have a major impact during a game or event, but this week features one of the most important figures behind the scenes.
Senior Ellie Cannon is Co-President of the Pack, Elkhorn North’s student section and pep club. While they may not be involved in the actual game, their support has an important role.
During the girls’ state basketball tournament, Cannon and fellow members of the Pack drove to Lincoln to support the wolves. Due to a large student turn-out and lots of positive encouragement, Elkhorn North received the Nebraska State Girls Basketball Tournament Sportsmanship Award.
“The student body brought a positive energy that was helpful to the girls on the floor,” Athletic Director Luke Ford said. “They were loud when they needed to be loud, and it was really good.”
The uniform theme, loud and positive cheers, and large turnout was influenced by seniors like Cannon.
When a team makes it to state, Cannon manages a group [The Pack] that writes encouraging messages to the members and delivers a treat. Cannon’s time management and dedication to supporting Elkhorn North’s athletics and activities has given a feeling of appreciation and excitement.
“It’s nice to know that everyone at the school supports us, no matter what sports team we are on,” senior Halle Pribnow said.
Cannon also helps to plan pep rallies and selects themes for events.
“She keeps the Pack really on top of things and helps promote school spirit,” English teacher Amber Sims said. “She’s such a go-getter and a great leader.”
