Junior Tyler Nietfeldt was the star of the show at the Fremont Golf Invite on Friday, April 12. He broke the school record with a score of 69 (-2) and placed first individually. Previously, the school record of 72 was set by both Harrison Weddell (‘23) and senior Cole Dryak.

The Fremont Invite was very competitive with many Class A schools in attendance as well as Westside, the 2023 state champion. The team fought hard and placed No. 5 with Zach Biegert placing No. 13.

“It kind of showed everyone that we’re better now than we’ve ever been, and now we can keep doing that throughout the rest of the year,” brother and teammate sophomore Andrew Nietfeldt said.

Nietfeldt looked hopeful throughout the whole round, but he continued to improve and shot an eagle on hole 7 that moved him up the leaderboard.

“Tyler is a guy that is always capable of putting together a great round so it’s never a surprise when he plays well,” head coach Calvin Thompson said. “As coaches, we love that he does the little things right and hits the books hard.”

Nietfeldt has put years of hard work and training into golf. With his help, the team placed runner-up at state in 2023. Nietfeldt is the kind of player who coaches enjoy coaching and teammates want on their side.

“Since he joined the team I have been impressed with his competitive spirit, positive attitude, and coachability,” assistant coach Caleb Johnson said. “He works hard and cares about his teammates, being attentive to those he’s playing with, taking time to help them find a golf ball, and praising when others hit a good shot.”

Nietfeldt brings a high level of competition to the team and is a strong leader for underclassmen to follow.

“Tyler walks like a champion each swing no matter where the ball goes and is a good competitor,” Johnson said. “I have no doubt even lower numbers are on the horizon for him and others on the team.”
