Quiz bowl requires competitors to have an extensive amount of knowledge on numerous minor topics. The eight primary competitors each have speciality subjects so they can share knowledge with one another.
The quiz bowl season is demanding. Beginning in September this group practices together every lunch period and Fridays after school for 1-3 hours.
All that practice time plus two Saturdays a month at tournaments have brought the group closer as a team.
“Quiz bowl is something new and it has a different level of comradery than the normal high school team,” freshman Noah Detloff said.
The State Quiz Bowl Competition was held at North Shore Assembly of God Church in Hastings, Neb. All schools, regardless of class, compete in the same division.
After winning the Eastern Midlands Conference (EMC) tournament, the Wolves were confident entering state.
“It’s state, but it just felt like any other competition,” junior Nolan King said.
Quiz bowl defeated Norris High School in the championship round and claimed their long-awaited state title.
They will go on to compete in Virginia at the National Academic Quiz Tournament in June.
“All of the foundational work and work outside school has paid off,” coach Melissa Peterson said.
Congratulations on the state championship, and good luck at nationals!
