On April 26th, a devastating tornado destroyed homes and businesses of Elkhorn, Blair, Bennington, Lincoln, Council Bluffs, Minden, and Waterloo. Junior Jacob Petrick worked very hard alongside his dad and volunteers at Relevant Church.
In addition to his work after the tornado, Petrick is heavily involved in volunteer work at Relevant. For example, he went on a mission trip to Thailand, and he volunteers at Rooted, which is the middle school youth program at Relevant.
“Whenever he has a goal, or something that he wants to get done, he will find a way to get it done,” Senior Murphy Maloney said. “He is very passionate and dedicated, and he is not afraid to work on his own if nobody’s going to help him.”
On his mission trip to Thailand, Petrick led his group through rough times and kept them on track.
“He was definitely a leader on the trip,” Senior Chris Thiessen said. “The situation was a lot more calm because he was there.”
Petrick is part of the Elkhorn North Varsity Tennis team which placed 1st in state, and Petrick and his tennis partner, Andrew Shada got runner up in doubles. His teammates describe him to be a positive person who has the ability to boost the morale of the team.
“He is a strong, well rounded teammate that looks out for others on the team,” Junior Sheamus Sinnott said. “Very fun and respectful player.”
