After losing key member Harrison Wedell, the 2024 boys golf team had to put in extra work to fill the void.
In the off season, athletes compete in individual tournaments to improve their game and go to the range to get repetitions in.
Kicking off the season at the Gretna Invite, the Wolves placed 3rd as a team; individually, Andrew Neitfeldt finished third, Zach Beigert in seventh, and Cole Dryak placed twelfth.
On April 2nd, the team had a tournament at Bay Hills. Tyler Neitfeldt, Jayse Munter, Dallan McCune, Kaden Ellis and Dryak took home the win, T. Neitfeldt placed second.
“Our early wins gave us confidence that we could be very successful this season,” A. Neitfeldt said.
In the 2023 season, Norris High School was the state runner-up, this season at the Norris Invite, at Pioneers Golf Course the boys team came out victorious, Dryak, Beigert and both Neitfeldts placed within the top twelve.
On April 12th, T. Neitfeldt broke the school record by shooting a 69, two under par, at Fremont Country Club, and the team took second.
“Tyler is a very respectful and motivated golfer,” Dryak said. “He always keeps a good mindset going into tournaments.”
At the Blair Invite on April 19th the wolves took home a win and Beigert triumphed in a three way playoff hole, shooting 78.
To continue the winning streak, the wolves won the 2024 Elkhorn Invite and all athletes placed individually. They also won the Blair Invite on April 19th.
At the EMC Tournament, the team placed second; all players finished in the top 15.
“Winning EMC made us confident we could punch our ticket to state,” T. Neitfeldt said.
In between EMC and districts, the Wolves competed at the Waverly Invite held at Crooked Creek Golf Course. The team placed second, and Beigert and T. Neitfeldt finished top 15.
At the district tournament on May 13th, the boys fought for second place and punched their ticket to state.
Individually, the Neidfeldts and Beigert qualified for state.
“We know that we can compete with anyone in the state,” junior Nathan Kudrna said. “If we put a good two days together, no one will stop us.”
After both days at state T. Nietfeldt placed third overall, A. Neitfeldt finished 13th, Beigert in 16th, Dryak finished 41st and Kudrna placed 61st.
The team finished fourth cumulatively for the second year in a row.
