A typical conversation between gen alpha teens is filled with slang. Past generations had slang unique to their generation as well.

Looksmaxxing. Mewing. Rizzler. These are all terms used by Gen Alpha. Many people look upon Generation Alpha as an unfocused, unserious and “ridiculous” generation. Yet, Gen Alpha is the generation that actually has the most potential. 

Every generation thinks the generation after them is childish, strange and lacks common sense. The Silent Generation thought that Baby Boomers’ ideas were incorrect, Baby Boomers thought Millennials were foolish, Gen X thought Millennials were moving too fast, and Millennials think Gen Z culture is weird. In a similar fashion, Gen Z has begun to mock Gen Alpha, the group born from 2010-2024.

From the slang to the behaviors and beliefs of Gen Alpha, Gen Z has completely undervalued and underestimated Gen Alpha. Many are saying that this generation is “cooked.”

However, people fail to remember that their generation was also labeled similarly. Just because Generation Alpha’s interests are different from other generations does not make them inferior. According to Launchx, today’s generation is the smartest generation. Competition is also at its highest, with athletes going pro at younger and younger ages, as well as breaking records and outcompeting older athletes. 

Gen Alpha has potential. According to Cailin Nuttal from GWI, Gen Alpha is already more community and family involved than any other generation, due to the COVID-19 pandemic impacting their early years. Additionally, they are more environmentally conscious, inclusive and tech savvy. 

UC Berkeley writes that today’s teens are quickly adapting to the struggles they face, and looking to reform those struggles with a unique zeal.

It is also important to note that the future Gen Alpha will live in is one that no one can predict. With the development of ChatGpt, advanced AI generation, completely automated cars and virtual reality, it is clear that many jobs and opportunities that the previous generations have had will no longer exist, completely changing the career field for Gen Alphans.

Now for the main issue: the way Gen Alpha talks. “Mogging”, “Fanum tax”, and “skibidi toilet” may sound ridiculous but are they really as bad as “smol bean”, “fam”, and “on fleek”? Or “yaas queen slay, periodt”? “That’s soo fetch!”, “noob”, “chillax”, “totes”, “fo shizzle”? Every generation has slang! Additionally, all the Sephora kids are just the Hannah Montana and JoJo Bow kids of the future. Nike dunks are the sketchers of today’s generation. While Gen Alpha may seem so different, they really aren’t all that different at all.

Though their behaviors may seem slightly strange, every generation has weird trends. However, that gives Gen Z no reason to insult Gen Alpha. At the end of the day, Gen Alpha is the future.
