Justin Solheim is a new foreign language teacher who currently teaches French I and French II. He is a traveling teacher so he goes to Elkhorn High for half of his day where he teaches French III and AP French.
Solheim is in his second year teaching with one previous year at Davis Middle School in Omaha Public Schools, where he also taught German and French.
Solheim figured out that teaching was the path for him because of a teacher he had in middle school.
“She was very outgoing and engaging,” Solheim said. “She encouraged students to be interested in languages.”
Her inspiration solidified his decision to teach foreign languages himself.
While in school, he challenged himself academically and he sees that reflection of the challenging curriculum in Elkhorn Public Schools.
“This is a great school with energized kids,” Solheim said. “The students are very engaged and motivated to learn.”
Solheim spent time in Grenoble, France, a small town close to Italy. He attempts to carry over the culture learned from his time abroad to his students.
He became interested in the culture and the way people interacted with one another, and wants his students to experience that culture in a way that is interesting to them.
In high school, Solheim ran track and competed in triple jump, verticals, and long jump. Solheim still enjoys running and being strongly involved in academics.
While it is Solheim’s first year at Elkhorn North High School, he is ready to make an impact and embrace the change. Students will now have the ability to learn what French culture is like from someone who grew up in the same state they live in.
