On Sept. 12, Elkhorn North Girls Golf took first place in the Girls Gator Invite with a team score of 331 strokes. Sophomore Avery Peter led the team with a score of 77, beat her previous PR of 85 by 8 strokes, and placed second out of 65 golfers.

Peter is a high performer on the team as only a sophomore, and it is easy to understand why.

“She is always very focused at practice, and even went up on her own on Sunday to work on some things.” Girls’ golf assistant coach Michelle Seger said.

Peter dedicates time outside of scheduled practice to better her performance, showing her care toward her personal and team performance.

“She was able to go to state as an alternate last year,” Seger said, “I think she was able to learn from the seniors and take the step up as a leader.”

Although golf may seem like an individual game, Peter proves that it also requires support from teammates. While she works on her swing and technique, she also encourages her teammates.

“She is always supportive to me before she focuses on herself.”  Sophomore teammate Harper Wills said.

Peter shows leadership and selflessness by putting her teammates before herself, and understanding her role as an individual and member of the team. Led by Peter’s personal best performance, Elkhorn North girls’ golf won the invite by 40 strokes. Still an underclassman, this leadership and commitment shows why Avery Peter is the Wolf of the Week.
