The marching band for Elkhorn North is a talented group of musicians, who have persevered through not winning any competitions. That is, until last Saturday, October 5th, when the Elkhorn North marching band won their first competition. The win was possible because of the hardworking students, including Ava Kloster.

Ava Kloster is a senior and the chief morale officer for the band. Her role is to ensure the band is focused and stretched before competitions, making her an important leaver for the team.

“She does a great job of motivating the kids and letting them know when to be focused and when to have fun or when not to,” Band Director Ben Petermichl said. “She is always helping the kids whenever she can.”

She is not just the chief morale officer for marching band. Ava Kloster also plays the alto saxophone, a talent she exhibits in her solo during competitions. As all other music ceases, attention goes to Kloster when she begins her solo.

“She plays what is called an aero bone, and it’s like an electronic saxophone,” sophomore Morgan Lavin said. 

While Kloster  is passionate about her role in band, she also tries to be a positive role model and influence to those around her. 

“She’s a very talented musician and a very good leader,” Morgan Lavin said. “Ava is always an upbeat and funny person to simply be around.”

Kloster is a friendly and easy-going person who loves to build people up. She is a good example of what an enthusiastic student can do for her peers and school.

“Everyone around her is really affected by her whimsical and bright personality. She is a great leader in our band and we are really lucky to have her around,” Petermichl said.
