Elkhorn North has many clubs that students can join. The problem is that many students lack the knowledge of what the clubs are. Clubs With Christo is the solution to this problem. I attend a meeting with one of the clubs around the school, so that I can educate the student body on what they are all about. This week I decided to go to Math Club.
Math Club takes place every Tuesday morning at 7:20 in the H118 room. Mrs. Watson is the teacher sponsor and junior Erica Zhang is the student leader. Our school’s math club competes in a competition online, against schools all over the country. At 7:30 on Tuesday morning all members are given 8 incredibly difficult math problems and have until 8:00 to solve them. Math Club is a great way for students to do something that they enjoy.
“Math club is a good way for students to get involved outside the classroom. Math Club gives students the ability to join a team and do something that they really love,” Watson said.
At the meeting I attended all members arrived and began getting out their chromebooks and anything that they would need to help them solve math problems. This week the members had to solve the math problems on their own rather than as a group which they had been able to do before. Despite the pressure that must come from attempting hard problems and the time requirement, all the members seemed very laid back and like they were having a good time.
This year marks a new milestone in the Elkhorn North Math Club because the team successfully placed at their first in-person event which took place at UNO. For all students that want to push themselves mentally and compete for the school, Math Club is an amazing option.
