I have watched all eight episodes of this documentary, and I thought it was amazing. The series was produced by NFL films, 2PM Productions, and Omaha Productions. Focusing on three quarterbacks such as Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota, Quarterback shows how these three care for their families and also work very hard to play the most important position in football.
The documentary follows the lives of the three quarterbacks during the 2022 season. Patrick Mahomes plays for the Kansas City Chiefs, Kirk Cousins, for the Minnesota Vikings. Finally, Marcus Mariota, quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons. The series explores the challenges of leading a franchise and balancing the job of their family life. It also shows the support that each quarterback receives from their fans and family.
I was very interested by the intelligence that these players have and the hard work that they put into the game. I loved when any of the quarterbacks would play their rivals, for example, the first episode had the Chiefs play against the Buccaneers. It’s great that all these quarterbacks were willing to share access and insights to make their story compelling. I’ve never been a Patrick or Brittany Mahomes fan just because he is so cocky and she is so obnoxious, but this documentary did not fail to show either of those characteristics.
Although, I thought that there was too much of both of the Mahomes. There was a lot of commentary from Brittany that was very annoying and it did nothing for the plot of the series. I cringed so hard when she brought up his high ankle sprain and that Patrick would be unavailable as he went into the AFC championship.
I wish that the series covered more of the lives of the other two quarterbacks, even since Kirk Cousins was very open and available to sharing his story.
This series taught me that it is possible to handle a lot of pressure of playing such a difficult, yet important role on their teams. Others can learn the same thing too because football is a very popular sport that a lot of kids play, and the message that they show puts out a very broad message. Many kids could take multiple lessons out of this series and gain confidence.
I think that younger kids that play football would like this movie more than others because it is a chance for them to develop role models, and these quarterbacks, for the most part, are perfect role models. The MPAA rating for the documentary would be PG-13, mainly because there is vulgar language from Mahomes, but other than that, it is pretty kid-friendly. I would rate this series a 4 out of 5.
