Cheerleaders perform at numerous school activities: football games, volleyball games, basketball games, pep rallies, and more. Additionally, they practice after school and compete in showcases and competitions over the weekend, all while balancing their busy athletic schedule with school work. A majority of their time and effort goes towards providing Elkhorn North with overflowing school spirit.
Despite the rigorous schedule, one cheerleader stands out with her positive attitude: junior cheer captain Lily Hass.
“I’ve never heard her complain,” sophomore cheerleader Abby Hagestad said. “She’s always striving to be better.”
Maintaining an optimistic outlook throughout hard and stressful situations can be difficult for anyone, yet it seems to come naturally to Hass, a pertinent role model for the cheer team. She points all of her teammates in a positive direction by setting a precedent of inclusivity.
“She is one of the kindest people I know and makes sure everyone feels warm and welcome,” head cheer coach Gabby Schneider said.
Although faced with a busy schedule, Hass continues to display selflessness in her leadership.
“No matter how tired she is, she puts everyone before herself,” Hagestad said.
Her thoughtful and level-headed mindset encourages her teammates to follow in her footsteps. Hass constantly keeps the best interest of the team in mind by giving pep talks to the girls in order to reassure and calm their nerves.
“She is always the first to offer to help when there is an issue and is always thinking about what is best for the whole team,” Gabby Schneider said.
While an athletic schedule can get in the way of other activities, Lily Hass will never let it change her uplifting attitude.
