2025 Train Wreck

The new year with bad beginnings

2025 has had a rough start with many speculating that this is going to be a year as disastrous as 2020, due to 2020 and 2025 beginning with the days: Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (“WTF”).

On the first day of the new year, a devastating attack occurred in New Orleans that resulted in 14 deaths, with a multitude of injuries after a pickup truck drove into a crowd of people according to the FBI. The driver of the vehicle exited shortly after the incident and fired upon law enforcement injuring two officers before being shot himself and pronounced dead at the scene.

Shortly after, large-scale fires broke out around California, causing devastation for many citizens. Not limited to celebrities’ houses, like Bella Hadid and Sarah Staudinger, also being burned in its chaos. As of the 21st of January, most of the fires have been contained, but evacuations are still occurring, and an estimated 16,000 homes and structures have been burned according to Cal Matters.

Another less deadly incident happened on the 19th of January. The U.S. TikTok ban had many spiraling before, saying their last goodbyes to the app and spilling their secrets before its ban. On the 19th, the app was banned, allowing users to open it, but not access any of its features. 14 hours later the app ban was rescinded, leaving a lot of those who said goodbye looking like fools.

Following in the footsteps of 2020, small-scale epidemics have already been reported, with the definite possibility of spreading. Listeria, a foodborne illness, has been reported in 8 states, with 19 reported cases as a result of ready-to-eat meat and poultry.

Another epidemic spreading is the Whooping Cough, it’s been seen throughout Elkhorn North but has seemed to have died down in recent months.

With a new president in office, Donald Trump is likely to alter different political foundations as well as the economy for the better or the worse. As his first orders within office, President Trump has locked down on immigration laws, enforcement, and deportation. This is a controversial topic for many Americans and has already caused a stir on the streets of Texas, where protestors have been rioting.

Many people agree that 2025 is on a downward slope. If the year continues as it has, only luck can salvage its horrendous course.
