The NBA is back, however, it took a long summer of trades and stalemates to get here.
A big trade that occurred during the off season was Kevin Durrant going to the Houston Rockets for former key role-players, Jalen Green and Dillion Brooks. In the Western Conference, the Golden State Warriors and Jonathan Kuminga had a three month stalemate which ended in Kuminga signing a two-year, 48.5 million dollar extension with a player option next year. On October 2, the Philadelphia 76ers and the New York Knicks kicked off the season in Abu Dhabi with New York taking the first game of the preseason with the New Orleans Pelicans also playing overseas, beating Melbourne United.
With the new additions to the team, the Warriors faced off against the Portland Trail Blazers where the new lineup went down 78-97 at the end of the third quarter. They then scored 51 points in the fourth quarter led by Quentin Post who ended the game with 20 points and guided them to a win.
“I was going to turn off the game after the 3rd quarter but I’m happy I didn’t because Quentin Post absolutely owned them in the fourth,” Warriors fan Jackson Williams said.
Other notable games included Houston Rockets v. Utah Jazz where the Rockets had a blowout win led by Alperen Sengun. The Boston Celtics defeated the Memphis Grizzlies at home, led by Derrick White’s 16 point performance as Jayson Tatum is still suffering from an achilles injury.
The 2025 NBA season officially starts on October 21, where the Rockets face the Thunder and the Warriors go up against the Los Angeles Lakers.
