Hope Squad is a group of students at Elkhorn North who strive to eliminate the stigma around mental health, provide a safe place for people to talk, and sprea d positivity schoolwide through various events.
One member in particular goes out of her way to demonstrate the meaning and values of Hope Squad, Loghan Evert. Evert has been on Hope Squad for three years now and this year she has proven to be an essential member to the group.
“She volunteers to do every activity that we have to promote positivity within the school,” social sciences teacher Ashley Anderson said. “She’s also a great person for people to talk to if they have concerns with school, stress, or anxiety.”
How she acts towards others and the way she represents Hope Squad reflects who she is as a person.
“She is very upbeat, bubbly, always happy, and always there when you need her,” senior Gaby Robertson said.
During the first few weeks of school, the student body nominates other students they think would be a good fit for the Hope Squad. This could include people who are helpful, kind to all, or very easy to talk to. This year 15 new members were voted and are now a part of Hope Squad. To get the members integrated into the group, Evert presented a slideshow to educate members on what to do.
By being helpful she has become a leader and someone to look up to for all of the new Hope Squad members. She takes the lead on projects such as creating ice breaker questions for the members to get to know each other in a fun way.
“Whenever we have had hope week, or when we do things school wide she is really good at getting the word out and making sure she is present at tables during lunches to promote the activity we have going on,”Anderson said.
Evert is a very outgoing and social person and this helps her in getting along with anyone at the school, not just people in her own grade.
“Shes been really energetic and kind to all of the new people,”sophomore Lincoln Petrick said.
“She’s always had a smile on her face and made it a really fun environment to be in.”
