“My favorite quote is from Laurie Hernandez, who is my favorite gymnast, and it’s, ‘Don’t let anyone or anything get you down. It’s a good day to have a good day.’ I really like the ‘It’s a good day to have a good day’ part of the quote. I think having a positive outlook on every day and trying to go into every day with a positive attitude helps.”
Sophomore Emma Hartnett finds her inspiration from gymnasts like Hernandez because she was once a serious gymnast herself. For a total of eleven years, Hartnett spent countless hours at her gym, Metro Stars Gymnastics. It was a big part of her childhood. Her favorite event is bars, which is fitting, considering she loves heights.
Although she does not compete anymore, Hartnett’s gymnastics days are not over. She has recently taken up a job as a coach at Metro Stars, hoping to inspire younger gymnasts as Hernandez inspires her. “Being a coach is my greatest accomplishment in life,” Hartnett said.
