Serving as one of the leaders on the Varsity Elkhorn North Tennis team, Luke Butler has had an outstanding season. Not only was he one of the champions at their most recent invite, but his record is 26-4 so far this season. Due to his successes, Butler has been chosen as Athlete of the Week.

So far this season Butler has excelled in his double matches alongside Sheamus Sinnot.  They placed first in the Elkhorn North Invite, South Sioux City Invite, and the Crete Invite. Butler has not only been contributing to the team with his skill, but his attitude and humor have made for a fun time.

“100% Luke makes it more enjoyable, he is funny, makes it fun, and encourages me to play harder,” Sheamus Sinnot, Butler’s doubles partner, said. “One reason why we can win is him being a good teammate.”

Butler is not only dominating the courts because of the work he puts into practice, but the effort he gave during the off-season. During summer break, he would often be seen training and improving for the role he was given this fall on the team.

“Luke is a tougher and more confident competitor this season,” said Boys’ Tennis coach, Lance Kush “He has also greatly improved his volleys and overheads.”

His incredible skill and drive are helping his team take home multiple plaques and placements.

Butler’s coaches appreciate the way he cares for the game and the players. When not playing, he can be seen cheering and supporting his teammates throughout their matches.

“When we had our most recent duel against Ralston, Luke was the first player done competing. He decided to watch and support his teammates that were still playing a match. Tennis is a sport that can be very individualistic when competing, but I know that Luke cares about his teammates’ success,” Coach Kush said.

Overall Luke Butler has shown nothing but improvement and great sportsmanship throughout his season. Everyone is looking forward to what he has to bring for the rest of his high school career.  He has earned the title of Athlete of the Week.
