Club Updates: Quiz Bowl, Robotics, and Academic Decathlon

Quiz Bowl:

The Elkhorn North quiz bowl team has already established itself as not only one of the most successful clubs in the school, but also one of the most dominant quiz bowl teams in the state. The quiz bowlers have already secured first place at multiple competitions this year and have solidified themselves in the higher ranks of the state.

“I love being able to showcase my knowledge and work with a group to compete,” Senior Safal Sapkota said. He has been doing quiz bowl for a long time and has experienced success through many years.

The sponsor of the club is Mrs. Peterson and the group has a very solid turnout at practices, ranging from a dozen to two dozen. Quiz bowl’s next competition will be the Cornerstone Christian competition and they have high hopes for that one as well. Quiz bowl hopes to continue feeding off of its recent success throughout the rest of the year.

Robotics:

Over the past couple of months the robotics team has been designing and constructing their robots for their upcoming competition this Saturday November 19th at Grandview Middle School. The Robotics team has more students registered than ever with about 38 students from Elkhorn North participating in the competition. With that amount of people on the team they had an alarming moment regarding the amount of supplies they had.

“We had a little bit of a pocket crisis in the first couple of practices but this week we got a shipment of about $2000 worth of supplies,” Mr. Peters said. “So finally, our team will have the parts they need in order to succeed.” With the first competition coming up it is safe to say that everyone is excited to see what the Elkhorn North robotics team is capable of.

Academic Decathlon:

Academic decathlon is a competitive based test formatted competition. At the beginning of each year there is a topic that each team needs to study and prepare for. This year the topic was the American Revolution. Each of the participants will have to study 7 topics about the American Revolution from social studies to music. Academic decathlon’s next competition is December 3rd in Tecumseh Nebraska. ¨Every competitor has to spend time studying different topics about the American Revolution in different categories revolving around the time period.¨ social studies and academic decathlon coach Melissa Peterson said.

Academic Decathlon is looking forward to their upcoming competition in which they will be competing against multiple schools from around the state in a highly competitive competition.
