For the first time ever, the Elkhorn North Wolves get their first win against their rivals at Elkhorn High. This means the rivalry isn’t so lopsided, it’s still 1-3 Antlers but the Antlers may see the Wolves as a threat down the road.
The game started off strong for the Wolves, getting an interception on the first drive for the Wolves by Cornerback Tommy Meckna. The Wolves then stomped down the field with intensity and got on the board immediately, with a quick seven points. The next drive for the Antlers was a quick three and out, which gave the Wolves the ball once again. As expected, they scored once more with ease making the score at the end of the first quarter 14-0.
The second quarter was more of a defensive battle. The Antlers settled for a field goal and stopped the Wolves for almost all of the quarter, until they once again got another touchdown with just under three minutes left in the first half. After a pretty uneventful, and defensive quarter, the Wolves were up against their cross town rivals at the half, 21-3.
The third quarter was where things got shaky for the Antlers. The Wolves got a touchdown on their second drive of the quarter, extending the lead to 28-3. Although the Antlers defense struggled in the third quarter, the offense had a little spark toward the end of the third quarter. The Antlers got a touchdown with just under five minutes left in the quarter, reducing the lead to 28-10. Although the Antlers had a glimpse of hope, the Wolves destroyed all of it after they scored yet again, extending their lead to 35-10 at the end of the third quarter.
Finally, the fourth quarter was the biggest stalemate of them all. The Wolves took out almost all of their starters, and still managed to hold the Antlers to only one touchdown. After that final touchdown for the Antlers, the rest of the game consisted of chew clock plays for the Wolves, helping them secure their first win against the Antlers, 35-17.
