Art 1 teacher rejoins ENHS after having her first child
Back From Maternity Leave

While the rest of Elkhorn North was adjusting to the new school year, art teacher Madeline Rosonke was at home caring for newborn Julien. Rosonke returned from leave and met her Art 1 students for the first time on Monday, Oct. 9.

Cynthia Kennedy acted as the long-term sub while Rosonke was out of the building.

Rosonke has been with Elkhorn North since it opened in the fall of 2020. She typically teaches a variety of art classes in addition to Art 1, such as Ceramics, though this year she mostly teaches Art 1. Rosonke knew she would miss the beginning of the school year and didn’t want to give her sub a more difficult time with several different art classes.

Her students are glad she’s back.

“She’s super nice, and I’m so glad she’s back after her break,” freshman Art 1 student Ruthvika Santhos said.

Overall, Rosonke is also happy to be back to teach again.

“It is interesting being back,” Rosonke said. “It’s hard because I feel kind of split in both ways. I really like teaching and being able to be creative. When I’m at home, I don’t get to do that necessarily, but I also really, really, really miss my baby. It’s hard.”
