Over the past three years, Junior Ava Kloster has taken on various leadership roles within ENHS, while pursuing a passion for the arts. 

At the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, Kloster was chosen as President of Junior Class Board, which comes with the responsibility of planning prom. 

“We started first semester with picking out a theme, then we had people make slideshows to choose a theme,” Kloster said, “We spent a while looking for different props and different stuff we would build, etc.”

As President, Kloster’s job is to lead the rest of Junior Class Board and make sure that everyone could help with activity planning. 

“She’s a really great leader, she led the meetings and she kind of took over,” Junior Class Board secretary Sam Miller said. “She made sure everyone’s ideas were heard and valued.” 

Long before Junior Class Board, Kloster discovered a love for art, which led to her involvement in the art world. 

“I started doing it for fun like most kids, and somewhere along the way, someone commented on my art skill and I took it to heart,” Kloster said. “It’s something I have always enjoyed, and the more you do it, the more you improve, so it kind of became my thing.”

Recently, Kloster was selected for the Kent Bellows Program, a program through the Joslyn Art Museum that brings together high school and professional artists for year-round mentoring.

“It’s a super difficult program to get into, and it’s definitely something I’ve seen her go above and beyond in,” art teacher Madeline Rosonke said. “Not every high school art kid gets into a program like that, so it’s very impressive.” 

Through this program, Kloster gets access to advice from staff and mentors, along with ways to learn new technical skills and explore different art styles. 

“People always like to think that you are considered born with the talent, but it’s more of a process,” Kloster said. “You have to fall in love with the process. I love drawing, improving and developing my style, and I love the art world.”

In addition to art, Kloster has also been very involved in the ENHS band program, being selected for the band’s leadership team (CLAW), pit orchestra, and as lead alto in the varsity jazz band. [The Big Band Wolves]

“I really like to be involved because I really care about it, and it’s the extracurricular that I’ve stuck with for the longest,” Kloster said. “I really like to see new people come in and see them learn how to care, especially during marching season, how at first they don’t like it, and then over time become more invested in it and start to get excited about it.”

Near the end of her sophomore year, Kloster was selected as the band’s Chief Morale Officer, which means that it was her duty to keep the rest of the band hyped up and ready to perform. 

“Being Chief Morale Officer is all about getting everyone pumped up, excited, and ready to perform.” Band director Matt Rom said, “Ava Kloster is good at all those things, and it’s something that she just shines at naturally.” 

Within her various leadership roles, Kloster has made sure that the environments remain fun and lighthearted for those around her. 

“I think that Ava’s enthusiasm is infectious, she gets along with other people, so she unites them,” Rom said. “Our moods are influenced by what’s around us and she’s really good at being a radio tower of positivity with just how she acts.”
