The boys soccer season comes to an end as they go to state for the third year in a row, while having an unfortunate loss to Lexington in the quarter finals.
The team was very successful this season, with their record of 11-5 over the spring. The Wolves started out the year 5-0 and scored 29 goals throughout those games. The next two matches were against Mt. Micahel and Bennington, the boys lost 0-2 and 1-2 in those tough battles. The boys then had the EMC Tournament which was from April 8 – April 12.
They played Lincoln Northwest in the first round and they won 2-0, which gave them a push to the semi-finals against Hastings High School. Victorious over Hastings, 2-1 in overtime, they had a chance to win their first ever EMC final against Bennington. Unfortunately, the Wolves fell short of the final after losing 1-2, and were 7-3 through the halfway point of the season.
With another half of the season to go, the boys had subdistricts and then district finals. Subdistricts took place in late April, as well as early May, at Bennington High School. The boys went on to win the first round of sub-districts, 2-1, after being down 0-1 at halftime against Mount Michael.
After the semi finals, they played in the final against Bennington and had a rough loss 1-5. With the loss, the boys had to play Gretna East on May 4th in districts in order to make it to the state tournament, and won 2-0 to send them to the playoffs for the third year in a row. They then played Lexington in the first round of the state tournament and lost 0-2 in a tough battle.
Overall the team had a great season with great players, as well as gaining a great addition to the team, freshman Zac Keenan. Other players that stood out this year were Gavin Dickerson, Jackson Crom, Ben Sullivan and Luke Grigsby. Dickerson had 5 goals and 5 assists throughout the season, Crom had 9 goals with 1 assist, Sullivan had 10 goals with 6 assists and lastly Grigsby had 6 goals and 4 assists.
The boys soccer team looks to go back to the state tournament for a fourth time and become 4x District Champions in the 2025 soccer season.
