In teaching, experience means everything. The longer someone has been a teacher, the more respected, efficient instructor they become.
Linscomb, an experienced English teacher new to Elkhorn North, has been in education for 18 years. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in education from Temple University. After college, Linscomb began her teaching career in Philadelphia.
Although she enjoyed her time in Philadelphia, Linscomb always wanted to live and teach closer to her family, so she decided to move out west to be near them. She has since taught in Kansas, Louisiana, and now here in Nebraska.
Moving across the country isn’t easy, and the Linscomb experience was no exception.
“Our house wasn’t sold yet, so we had to kind of half move, because a lot of our stuff is still there,” Linscomb said. “We have a family of five and a dog, so just traveling across the country is a challenge in itself.”
Linscomb’s time at Elkhorn North, although extremely brief, has been very enjoyable for her. She currently teaches English 9, as well as AP Language and composition.
“So far, it’s wonderful compared to where I came from,” Linscomb said.
For now, Linscomb is focused on teaching.
“I think my first year here I’m just going to focus on lessons,” Linscomb said. “Next year I plan on being involved in extracurriculars.”
In the future, Linscomb has non-teaching related goals.
“I want to teach until I retire,” Linscomb said. “Then become a writer and live in a cabin in the woods somewhere.”
Until then, she teaches.
