Only nine games into the season, junior Reagan Wallraff has amassed 142 kills and lead the Wolves to an 8-1 record. With a team ranking of No. 1 in the state, and No. 31 in the nation via maxpreps, Elkhorn North has utilized Wallraff’s strong spiking ability to average a kill percentage of 35.7, which is 3.6% higher than the national average.
Wallraff leads the state in kills this season with 142 which is 44 more than anyone else. Currently, the Wolves average 12.1 kills per set, with Wallraff averaging 6.5 of them, 0.4 higher than her sophomore season.
“Her entire game has made major improvements,” Head Coach Jenny Gragert said. “Her freshman year she was a front row player only, and now she is a primary passer and has made a greater impact defensively.”
As a junior, Wallraff has had lots of experience on varsity, playing 98 sets as a freshman and 108 sets as a sophomore. Through her career, she has switched from a front row player to a leading hitter and a primary passer in serve receive. So far this season, she has an average of 3.1 digs per set and a total of 91 receptions, both being much higher than prior years.
In addition to her game, Wallraff is a great role model for the team and an incredible leader during practices and games.
“She’s very locked in during practice, she’s very encouraging and she pushes all of us to be our best,” sophomore volleyball player Reese Wallraff said.
Wallraff is a crucial part of the team and a big reason for their early success. Following last year’s second round loss in state, her and the team hope to keep their momentum and make it back to PBA.
