Through three weeks of the season, the Wolves have blown out their competition, winning by a combined score of 144-28. Throughout these weeks, a lot has been learned about both the players and the team.
The team is led by a plethora of seniors, 18 in total. At least ten of them start on one side of the ball, leading to a huge part of the teams leadership coming from this group.
Senior right tackle and defensive end Parker Christoffels is one of those leaders.
“We have had a great start to the season, and I think the leadership plays a huge role in that,” Christoffels said. “Every one of the seniors has a major role and gives everything they have to the team.”
In week one, the Wolves squared off against Lincoln Pius, a game which came down to a game winning field goal for the wolves the year before. A much different story would unravel this year, as after a slow start, the Wolves rattled off seven straight touchdowns to win the game 49-0.
Stars of the opener include senior quarterback Ethan Beachy (219 yards, 5 TDs), senior receiver Alex Uchtman (4 catches, 74 yards, 2 TDs), and the entire Elkhorn North defense, who gave up just 33 yards of offense the whole game.
After their week one win, the Wolves made the trip out to York. The student section, all seven of them, showed up for their team. After another slow start, the Wolves poured an onslaught of touchdowns on the Dukes, finishing the game with a 42-7 win.
The run game was a major factor against the Dukes, as the wolves ran for over 200 yards and averaged 5.4 yards per carry. Junior Anderson Taylor led the backfield with 107 yards and two touchdowns, and senior linebackers Barry Fries and Jase Reynolds each had multiple tackles for loss and a combined 13 tackles.
Week three featured the Wolves homecoming game, their home opener against Ralston. The Rams came into Elkhorn stadium, in hope of revenge from the blowout a year ago. They held their own, but the Elkhorn North offense was too much for the Rams to handle, with the Wolves winning 56-21.
The Wolves offense ran wild all night, gaining over 450 yards and scoring 8 touchdowns. They ran behind their offensive line for over 225 yards, with the line having a combined 14 pancake blocks.
Ranked number one in class B, the Wolves have taken care of business for the first three weeks. The team has there sights set on a state championship, but they haven’t had a tough matchup to date.
Their first real challenge comes Friday, September 19th against the Gretna Dragons, who rank seventh in Class B.
Offensive coordinator Anthony Dunn has coached at Elkhorn North since its opening. When asked about the game vs Gretna, he acknowledged the importance of the game while also mentioning the impact it will have on the season as a whole.
“Our team has some pretty lofty goals. This will be the first time all year we will see a team with goals similar to ours,” Dunn said. “It’s a great opportunity for us to see how much we have improved over the last month against a quality opponent.”
