Everybody knows that teachers decorate their classrooms differently based on their school subjects, but let’s see how true that really is. Get ready to indulge in the thought process behind these teachers and their decoration choices. To begin, let’s take an adventure into Hollst’s classroom. She is an English teacher at Elkhorn North and an envy for decor. Hollst’s room really speaks English class, she has lots of colors, and motivational quotes that sprout across the walls.

With the addition of bright colors, and lots of light intake, this classroom has a very inviting atmosphere and a great vibe. This is Hollst’s second year at North, and while her classroom isn’t head to toe with decor like some of her more settled coworkers, she still has a refreshing amount. Her fresh career has influenced her choices in decor, with a majority of her decorations having been given to her.

“So I don’t know if I’d say I have a certain aesthetic but I just like it to be colorful. I like to use a lot of different kinds of lighting. I just want it to be vibrant,” Hollst said.

With the addition of her fun decor, Hollst has a green gnome in her room (As seen above), that displays the words Coffee, Teach, Repeat. Not a lot of teachers can say they have a gnome that they use to decorate the classroom. Being a newer teacher, a lot of her decorations were gifts from friends and family.

“My mom actually bought that for me . . . she got that for me before I started teaching. She’s a teacher as well.”

This gnome is definitely a fun decoration and is a perfect fit for Hollst’s vibrant classroom. Additionally, she had some more class style that just had to be mentioned!

When most people think about English class, they envision a class period that is more light, and sometimes even fun. From what we’ve seen English teachers are great at expressing the mood of their subject through their room decor, and are great advocates for inspiring messages. They often embrace a mix of colors that pop out all along the walls. The subject of English has a vibrant and diverse amount of decorations that make the classroom a place where students feel invited.

“I guess I still use a lot of . . . random decorations and I just kind of throw them all together.” A final quote from Hollst.
