On April 2, the Wolves soccer team played Madison, when senior midfielder Jack Olson had five assists, breaking the single game record.
Throughout the first six games of the season Olson has broken the school record for assists in a season. The previous record was seven assists set by Luke Grigsby, but against Madison, Olson was able to surpass that by getting five in a single game, which put him up to a total of nine on the year.
Olson has been a top player for the Wolves the past few seasons, but this year he’s left a special mark that continues to grow as the year goes on.
“Jack has grown tremendously over the past year because of how much hard work he’s put in” said senior captain Mason Mercer. “He’s always been composed and technical, but this year he’s elevated that.”
During his downtime Jack strives to get better everyday, whether that’s staying after practice to get more touches or doing the extra work at home. Teammates of his describe him as hardworking and selfless, always looking for the next pass and distributing the ball to them. His record breaking performance is just one example of the effort he puts in everyday.
“Jack has also grown in his role as a leader. He supports players at all levels, not just varsity, by providing guidance that ultimately strengthens the team as a whole,” said Mercer.
With a lot of the season remaining, the Wolves look to carry on what they’ve started and work towards winning the EMC Championship and state title as Olson continues to set up his teammates.
