Every Tuesday starting in September many watch the show Dancing with the Stars. Shown on ABC the show has become very popular over the years. Dancing pros get paired up with a star, well known celebrities, and go through many weeks of training and compete to get to the finale.
Each week there is a theme the dancers receive. From there, the pro has to choreograph a
ballroom style dance with their star and teach them the do’s and dont’s. Some of the themes this season included Wicked Night, Disney Night, Halloween Night, and TikTok Night.
Dancing with the Stars season 34 aired this year, with stars such as Alix Earle, Robert Irwin, Whitney Leavitt, Jordan Chiles, and Dylan Efron. Because these people have a large following and posted about being on the show, it had a significantly higher number of viewers than previous years.
The pairs will do their dance, get judged, and receive a score between one and ten. With three judges the highest score dancers could receive was 30: On some nights there was a guest judge so the total could be up to 40. Then the viewers get up to 10 votes per couple. Viewers have the option to vote on ABC or text the star’s name to a number. At the end of the night the judges scores and viewer votes are added up and the couple with the lowest gets eliminated.
At first everyone was rooting for Whitney Leavitt. As the season progressed though, many started to dislike her for things she has done and said on her show The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. Everyone knew it would come down to Alix Earle, Robert Irwin, and Whitney Leavitt, but after all of the hate Whitney Leavitt got she was voted off the week before the finale.
“I really wanted Robert to win because I’ve always liked him and his family,” senior Kahlen Aurich said. “But I also wanted Alix to win because I had a feeling she would go far in the competition.”
In the finale Alix and Robert, and their partners Val Chmerkovskiy and Witney Carson, were the last two competitors after everyone got called for 3rd-5th place. They announced that Robert had won, fans found this ironic because his sister Bindi Irwin had won season 21 with her partner Derek Hough.
“I was pretty shocked to find out that Robert won over Alix because he did mess up quite a few times,” senior Audrey Bott said. “I was happy for him yet still a little upset.”
