For many years book-to-movie adaptations have dominated television screens and streaming services. Majorly starting in 2001 with Harry Potter and becoming popular again in 2023 with It Ends With Us, the craze gave way to new audiences for many authors.
“I think that it’s fun getting to see books that I read in eighth grade on the screens now,” junior Hailey Coe said.
These movies are constantly promoted throughout social media. Trailers blow up on TikTok, parts of the book go viral on “BookTok”, and readers say who their dream cast members would be. Movie adaptations come with a set audience who have already read the books, but promotions and the movies themselves bring an entire new fanbase to the platform.
Movie adaptations are something many of the big streaming services want to get in on. In 2025 Netflix took on People We Meet On Vacation and Bridgerton. HBO released Heated Rivalry, and Amazon Prime had The Summer I Turned Pretty. All shows and movies released in 2025.
Book adaptations have seen great success because the fans of the book get to see the stories come to life and give them a chance to decide which is better. The fans can feel familiar with the story line, but still surprised at things that may have been changed between the book and movie.
“If I see a movie that I like that has a book I haven’t read yet, it makes me want to read it,” Coe said.
When a book is put onto the big screen it reminds readers of why they loved it so much, and convinces the ones who haven’t read it before to start. The books get put back onto bestseller lists and reintroduced to new audiences.

Hopefully when studios adapt book to films, they get it right. I feel like so often we see the studios not give the book justice.
