The new Marvel movie, The Eternals, releasing within the next month will explore the creation of the Universe Marvel is in and the protectors. To catch up on what is going on, here is a complete in-depth timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Beginning: 

The universe is created. Six singularities in the form of Infinity Stones: Space Stone, Mind Stone, Reality Stone, Power Stone, Time Stone, and Soul Stone. Each stone has immense power and all six combined have unlimited possibilities.

After the beginning: 

Thousands of years before the present day, Asgardians, Humans, and Kree life emerged. The original sorcerer, Agamotto, creates the Masters of the Mystic Arts and sanctuaries around the earth to protect against universal threats.

1930: 

Dr. Abraham Erskine begins his experiments with the Super Soldier Serum. This serum turns the ordinary man into a superhuman. Increased strength and speed.

1943: 

Steve Rogers is Given the super-soldier Serum. This turns him into Captain America.

1945: 

Bucky falls out of the train and is presumed to be dead. Captain America sacrifices his life to save New York. He crashes the plane into the ice and is presumed dead. The Red Skull comes in contact with the Tesseract and is transported to the planet Vormir. He lives out his days protecting the Soul Stone.

1949: 

After the fall of Hydra in 1945, Arnim Zola worked to rebuild Hydra. He builds it around brainwashed assassins. They would carry out hits on important people. One of the agents is Bucky now known as The Winter Soldier. He survived the fall and has been brainwashed by Zola.

1989: 

Carol Danvers becomes Captain Marvel when the tesseract lets off a burst of energy giving her superhuman abilities.

2005: 

Bruce Banner is exposed to a high concentration of gamma radiation. This causes him to turn into the Hulk. Because of this, the United States army sees him as a threat and attempts to capture him.

2010: 

Tony Stark is kidnapped after testing his Accelerated Wave Explosion in Afghanistan. His kidnappers are the Ten Rings who are working with Obadiah Stane. Stark and Ho Yinsen are still imprisoned and decide to make Mark 1, the first variation of the Iron man suit. He uses the suit to escape and heads back to the United States where the first thing he wants is a cheeseburger. Tony continues to recreate iron man suits. He publicly says he is Iron man.

2011: 

Tony Stark appears before a special Senate committee to be told he needs to hand all of his weapons over to the United States government. Ivan Vanko recreates the Arc Reactor to become Whiplash. Tony defeats him and puts him in a maximum-security prison. Justin Hammer creates drones with the same technology used in the Arc Reactor. These drones attack Tony, so Tony and War Machine defeat the drones.

At the same time this is going on, Thor Odenson is banished from Asgard to Midgard. He no longer has his hammer as he is no longer worthy. This was all set up by his brother to try and gain control of Asgard. He eventually fights his brother and wins. This causes him to regain his worthiness.

Also happening at the same time, Emil Blonsky attempts to cure Bruce Banner and ends up turning himself into the Abomination. The Hulk beats the Abomination. Blonsky is imprisoned.

2012: 

The battle against Loki Odinson moves to New York City. He opens a portal letting the Chitauri army invade the city. The now fully assembled Avengers work together to defeat them, but they aren’t strong enough. A nuke is sent to the city to destroy the Chitauri, without care for civilian casualties. Because of this Tony Stark redirects the missile into the Chitauri mothership, stopping the portal and killing all of the Chitauri. They go to a shawarma restaurant after the battle is over.

2013:

The Collector begins to help Thanos retrieve Infinity Stones.

2014: 

Steve Rogers meets Sam Wilson (Falcon) during a run. The Winter Soldier attacks Nick Fury, badly injuring him. Sharon Carter takes Fury to a hospital where he apparently dies while in surgery. Captain America, Black Widow, and Falcon determine that S.H.I.E.L.D. has been infiltrated and run by HYDRA. HYDRA sets out to kill many civilians with the helicarriers that S.H.I.E.L.D. had been created. Nick Fury is found to still be alive and helps take down HYDRA and stop the helicarrier attacks. With HYDRA being exposed in S.H.I.E.L.D., the United States Government determines that S.H.I.E.L.D. is not fit for service and is shut down. Wolfgang von Strucker, a HYDRA researcher, assures that the study of Pietro and Wanda Maximoff will not be hindered.

Starlord steals an orb with the Power Stone in it, he is targeted by multiple people, including Thanos. Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot are apprehended, while fighting for the Power Stone, by the Nova Corp. In the Prison, they meet Drax. They all escape together calling themselves the Guardians of the Galaxy. Together, Yondu’s ravagers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and the Nova Corps together defeat Ronan. They give Nova Corp the Power Stone, so it doesn’t get into the wrong hands. 

Next, they defeat the Abilisk and save the Sovereign’s batteries that power their civilization. Rocket decides to steal the batteries anyway. Their ship crashes and they meet Ego, the living planet. He takes them to his world, and they are amazed. There he reveals he is Peter’s father and he gave Peter’s mother cancer. This infuriates him and he kills his father. Yondu is killed in the fight and given a memorial. Because the ruler of the Sovereign is mad at the Guardians of the Galaxy for stealing the batteries, she creates Adam Warlock.

2015:

The Avengers are raiding HYDRA’s main research base in Sokovia. They retrieve the scepter which has the Mind Stone in it and captures Wolfgang von Struck. For the first time, they see the Maximoff twins. This capture of von Struck finally ends the war on HYDRA. Banner and Stark return to Avengers Tower with the scepter. The scepter creates an evil AI known as Ultron. To fight the evil AI, they upload J.A.R.V.I.S. (Starks AI) into an android with the Infinity Stone in his head. He becomes Vision. They defeat Ultron in Sokovia with the help of Vision. During the fight, Pietro Maximoff is killed protecting Hawkeye.

2016:

Bucky is blamed for killing Black Panther Father. Ironman, Blackwidow, Black Panther, Vision, Spiderman, War Machine fight Captain America, Hawkeye, Ant-Man, and Scarlet Witch at an airport in Germany. Ironman and Captain America then fight it out at a former HYDRA nuclear launch site.

2017:

Odin of Asgard dies and it wakes Hela, Thor’s eldest sister, who has been imprisoned by Odin for thousands of years. She reigns havoc on Asgard. Thor gets thrown into another world where the Hulk has been for multiple years. To defeat Hela, Thor, Loki, and Valkyrie spawn a fire giant named Surtur, He proceeds to destroy Hela and Asgard. This makes Thor the leader of Asgard. 

2018:

Thanos now has all 6 of the Infinity Stones. He gets the Space Stone from the tesseract by killing Loki, the Reality Stone from the Collector, Mind Stone by killing Gamora, Time Stone by getting it from Doctor Strange, and the Mind Stone by killing Vison. With the power of all of the stones, he snaps his figures and wipes out half of the universe’s population.

2023: 

It has been 5 years since the snap. The Avengers are trying to move on after the tragedy. This is when they find Thanos and kill him. He had destroyed all of the stones. They thought it was impossible to fix what had happened. This was until Ant-Man figured out a way to travel through time. They get the Infinity Stones and fight a past version of Thanos after they restored everything. Iron Man sacrifices himself to save humanity by killing Thanos using the Infinity Stones. Captain America then uses the time machine to return all of the stones back to their time in history and lives out his day with his long-lost love Peggy Carter. He gives his shield to Falcon dubbing him Captain America.
