With the high school basketball regular season coming to an end, the Boys Basketball team is heading to Pinnacle Bank Arena to compete in the state tournament.
With the team’s state championship goals still in play, the players will look to continue their individual and team success.
The team is led by a strong senior class including six different players who combine for 32.8 points per game. Senior Sutton Piatkowski leads the team with 17.5 PPG and 6.4 RPG (rebound per game), while senior Nike Orgibold averages 8.7 PPG.
The Wolves junior class is equally as important, tallying the same amount of points per game as the seniors with 32.8, with juniors Kellen Murphy, 15.4 PPG and 4 assists, and Carter Peterson, 13.4 PPG and 6.1 RPG, leading the way.
The underclassmen don’t fill up the stat sheets as much, but sophomore Drew Meyer and freshman Braylon Jackson both average more than ten minutes per game.
Despite their variety of ages, the team is very close.
“Even though we are in different classes, I don’t think we could be closer,” said Orgibold. “We truly have so much fun and love each other like family.”
The Wolves did not start off the season great, losing their first two games to Papio South and Platteview. The Wolves were able to get back on track with four wins in a row, and finished 17-3 in their last 20, with their only losses to the top two ranked teams in class B, Norris and Skutt.
The Wolves would win the District B-6 championship, and earned the four seed for the state tournament.
Making it to their second consecutive state tournament, the Wolves will be looking to achieve their state championship goals.
“We have full belief that we can win the chip,” Orgibold said. “Its been a long journey for some of us, and that would be the picture perfect ending.”
The Wolves will take on the five seed Wahoo Warriors in the first round of the tournament at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Thursday, March 12th, at 3:15 PM, with the hopes of winning it all for the first time in program history.
