In the last game of the regular season, the Wolves overcame the Badgers 29-27 on a last second game winner. Quarterback, Ethan Beachy, threw for 256 yards with 161 of them coming directly from Drew Meyer.
As a freshman, Meyer was the quarterback for the freshman football team and in less than a year, became a starting wide receiver on varsity. In the last game of the regular season he broke the record for most receiving yards in a single game.
“He has caught on quickly and found his place on offense,” senior wide receiver Alex Uchtman said.
Meyer has quickly changed roles and has become a serious offensive threat for the Wolves as he leads the team in receiving yards with 519.
“Drew is a big bodied, fast receiver who forces defenses to respect the vertical passing game and open up running lanes,” Offensive Coordinator Anthony Dunn said.
As a first-year player on varsity he’s a consistent blocker and has already had several clutch plays. Against Bennington, Meyer caught a deep ball that got called back, followed by a slant route to flip the field on the last drive. By the end of the game he ended with five completions, averaging more than 30 yards per catch.
With the addition of Meyer to the receiver group this year, the Wolves offense has only become scarier as they look to make it to Memorial.
“Having that extra receiver that can go out and make a play really puts the defense in distress,” senior quarterback Ethan Beachy said.
