On January 9, 2026, the Elkhorn Swim team competed at the Marian and Creighton Prep Dual. Senior Jenna Polking was a standout in the 100 Free and 200 Free, while also competing in relays. Polking excels in her competitions, but also stands out in her leadership and effort she puts into the team.
“The other girls are energized, not just by her wins, but the way she prepares to give her best at every moment,” swim coach Jay Thiltgen said. “They feed off her confidence and unwavering effort in any situation.”
Polking gives her all in every situation she is put in. She drives her teammates to be the best they can be, and inspires them to push themselves harder. The attitude she brings to the team creates a positive environment during practices and meets. Even with her other commitments, show choir and coming off of cross country season, she shows up to practice ready to give her all, and she stays a dependable teammate throughout the season.
“She is always so encouraging and during really hard sets she always just lets people know that you can do this and that we only have however many left,” junior Emme Shradar said.
Her being a constant positive force on the team boosts the dynamic and makes everyone want to do better for each other. She pushes for the team’s success rather than her own. Her ability to motivate the team helps them finish strong.
“Her maturity and confidence on the pool deck inspires those around her and provides comfort and confidence to those that may need it,” Thiltgen said. “She is welcoming to every member on the team, and will talk to and encourage everyone to do their best.”
